The Mid-Atlantic Show story...
Sports and other trading cards are exploding in popularity and value as millions of collectors have recently returned to the hobby. In August, a 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie card sold for $12.6 million (!!), shattering all prior records for the sale of a single sports card. (Wash. Post, Aug. 12).
In the early 1990s, at the height of the last baseball card craze, the Silver Spring Armory was home to a recurring sports card show. The Armory was demolished in 1998 to make way for the redevelopment of downtown Silver Spring. Washington DC and its inner suburbs have lacked a significant sports card show for many years.
Mid-Atlantic Collectibles has brought sports cards shows back to Washington, DC, back to Montgomery County, MD, and back to Silver Spring, most recently with the hugely successful Oct. 9, 2022 show.
The February 4, 2023 Mid-Atlantic Sports Collectibles and Memorabilia Show will once again take place in the Great Hall of the Silver Spring Civic Building, just steps from where the original Silver Spring Armory once stood. With plentiful free parking in the adjacent municipal garages and the metro nearby, the Mid-Atlantic Show will draw a crowd of all ages eager to buy, sell, and trade modern and vintage cards and collectibles of their favorite players and teams, as well as popular nonsports cards such as Pokemon, Marvel, and even Garbage Pail kids.
