Denny McLain is the only Major League pitcher since the Great Depression to win 30 games, and likely the last to ever do so.

In 1968, Denny went 31-6 with a 1.96 ERA while throwing 28 complete games (last year, no one pitched more than 3 complete games)!

As a Detroit Tiger, Denny was a 3x All-Star, won 2 Cy Young awards, an MVP award, and a World Series championship. Denny also pitched for the Washington Senators (under Manager Ted Williams), Oakland A’s, and Atlanta Braves. He has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated four times!

Denny’s life is Hollywood material and definitely will be the subject of a movie at some point.  See the 1970 SI cover story, Denny McLain and the Mob, Baseball’s Big Scandal, or his 2007 book, I Told You I Wasn’t Perfect.

Denny McLain remains a popular figure in our hobby. In January, a high-grade 1965 Denny McLain rookie card sold for over $1,200.
